The 7 Hermetic Principles Of The Kybalion

The 7 Hermetic Principles Of The Kybalion - Hermetic Principles

The 7 Hermetic Principles are derived from The Kybalion book, which is a written work based on the occult (secret) hermetic philosophy from ancient Egypt. The founder of this philosophy was Hermes Trismegistus, also called “Hermes the three times greatest,” and refers to (the greatest philosopher, king, and priest). He was also the founder of astrology and alchemy.

He taught his philosophy only to initiates, those who could understand the universal truths so that they too could later pass them on to future generations. There are 7 Hermetic Principles, often referred to as the 7 universal principles, and whoever understands them (according to Hermetic philosophy) has the magic key that opens all doors to the universe’s secrets.

The 7 Hermetic Principles on which the entire hermetic philosophy is based are as follows:

  1. The Principle of Mentalism
  2. The Principle of Correspondence
  3. The Principle of Vibration
  4. The Polarity Principle
  5. The Principle of Rhythm
  6. The Principle of Cause and Effect
  7. The Principle of Sexuality

The principle of mentalism

Everything is energy. The universe is a creation of “the All.” Bythe All (also called God) is meant an infinite, inexhaustible, indefinable life-creating Spirit (energy) from which everything originates. The All is an energy flow with an infinite number of vibrations. Everything that lives and exists has its own unique vibration, only a tiny part of that infinite energy flow. It includes the material universe, life in all its forms, energy, matter, and everything we can perceive with our senses. This life-creating energy inspires everything that exists and lives. To understand the principle of mentalism, it is easier to compare how we ourselves create our reality. If we want to accomplish something or create something here in physical reality, then this always precedes a mental process, our thoughts.

Our thoughts are the generator for creating here in physical reality. Without thoughts, creation would not be possible. For example, if we want to make a table, we first think about how we will do that, and then we act on those thoughts to make that table. The table is a mental process, a thought that exists in our mind and comes from the infinite, life-creating spirit from which everything comes. Every physical object (matter) or event that takes place here in our physical reality is preceded by a thought process. So we can say that everything we create is mental because it originates in thought. According to the Kybalion, the universe was created in the same way, namely by a thought. The All has “thought” the universe in creation.

“The ALL is Mind; The Universe is mental. ”.

The Principle of Correspondence

This principle teaches us that there is harmony and equality between the different levels of existence. Everything originates from that infinite life energy, the source (the All), and splits into infinitely different vibrations of life and existence. The physical, the mental, and the spiritual are only a difference of vibration and are one and connected to each other. Our universe is holographic; this simply means that the larger whole is in the small, and the small is part of the larger whole and is connected to each other. For example, take the structure of an atom; the electrons of an atom move around the atom core just like the planets in our solar system revolve around the sun.

There is an agreement between the microcosm (which takes place at the smaller level) and the macrocosm (which takes place at the larger level). The small world (atom, microbe, plant, animal, human) has the same composition and structure as the big world (planets, universe, galaxy). We are a part of the universe, and the universe is a part of us. Or as the hermetic axiom says: “as above, so below too.

“As above, so below; as below, so above. ”

The Principle of Vibration

Everything is moving. Nothing is at rest. This principle teaches us that the difference between the various manifestations of matter, energy, information, thoughts, and our mind. In short, everything that is and exists is a matter of vibration. The apparent “solid matter” that we perceive is nothing but energy at a very low vibration. Matter consists of atoms (tiny matter particles). If we zoom in on the matter with a powerful microscope, we see that those atoms are constantly moving. The way in which something manifests itself depends on its own unique vibration. Light and darkness, heat and cold, electricity and magnetism, and all other forms of energy are vibrations.

Our thoughts and state of mind are also vibrations. They can have a high or low vibration; hatred, aggression, jealousy, and revenge are lower vibrations. Love, trust, helpfulness, kindness, compassion are examples of higher vibrations.

“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”

The Principle of Polarity

Everything is dualistic; everything has its two extremes. Opposites are identical in nature. Only the difference in vibration is what differentiates between the two “apparent polarities.” Nothing in itself is single. There is nothing like absolute love or hate, light, and darkness, cold and warmth, strong or weak, heavy or light, and so on. This seems to be opposites for most people, but in reality, there is only “something” and the absence of “something.” Can we say that someone who loves can never hate and someone who hates can never love? There is only love or an absence of it. Just as there is only light or absence of light, everything can be placed on one measuring scale with different gradations of vibrations between the two polarities.

“Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”

The Principle of Rhythm

This principle teaches us that change is the only constant. Change is the universal force in existence and makes life and evolution possible. It is the natural cycle of coming and going. Everything has a start, a height, and an endpoint. There is a time of construction and a time of demolition—a time of life and a time of dying. Also, human consciousness, thoughts, emotions, feelings, and moods are constantly changing and fluctuate from one state to another.

“Everything flows, out and in; everything has it tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates. ”

– The Kybalion

The principle of Cause and Effect

The level where the causes manifest themselves is at the mental level and are our thoughts. Our thoughts are the generator for creating here in physical reality. We then act on those thoughts and consciously or unintentionally create the consequences in physical reality. The free will that a person has received from his Creator allows him to think, feel and act the way he wants. But he cannot avoid the consequences of those thoughts, feelings, and actions. The consequences can either occur immediately or over a longer period of time, but NOTHING escapes the Law of Cause and Effect. The law of cause and effect applies to both the collective and the individual levels.

What we think, feel, and act as humanity collectively has even more consequences than individually. Individually, a person still has control over his own thoughts, feelings, and actions. On a collective level, this is much less successful, and the influence is limited. It is everyone’s job as an individual to choose positive, loving thoughts and create the consequences that we really want. That which “apparently” takes place outside of us in the world around us is actually a reflection that takes place collectively and individually within us. The inner world and the outside world reflect each other (principle of correspondence). It is through this interaction between what is happening within us and the consequences that we see and experience outside ourselves that we become aware that thoughts (causes) lead to consequences.

“Every cause has its Effect; every Effect has his Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is not a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law. ”.

The principle of Sexuality

Sexuality manifests itself at all levels of existence. At the Physical level, we can clearly distinguish between men and women. But there is also gender on a mental and spiritual level. Men and women think, feel and experience reality differently than each other. Yet both energies are again just a difference of vibration from the infinite creative energy flow, and they complement each other perfectly. The All (the unity) splits into duality and creates a masculine and feminine energy; yin and yang energy.

These two energies ensure harmony and balance in existence and make creation and evolution possible. These two energies must stay in balance with each other. Too much yang or male energy leads to aggressive behavior, a tendency to dominate, a desire for war, and ultimately to destruction. Excess yin or feminine energy makes you too passive, too careful, and too receptive and care. Too much yin or feminine energy makes too passive, too careful, and too receptive and causes a lack of progress. In general, men have more yang energy, and women have more yin energy. Yet both sexes carry both male and female energy, only to a lesser extent. Here again, it is a matter of vibration whether you are male or female.

But this can vary from person to person. Homosexuality is an example of this.

“Gender is in everything; everything has his Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifesto on all planes. ”
