How to Stop Your Negative Thoughts and Feelings

You are in a funk of negativity. You feel miserable, unhappy, pissed off, depressed, or any other negative emotion that has taken over your body and wont let go.To see the glass as half full is not even an option right now for you and you are just trying to find a way to start feeling better about life and this moment right now.

We have all been there and we all know how much that sucks to be in that frame of mind as well as how hard it can be to get out of it. But as easy as it can be to dwell in those thoughts and emotions it is best to realize that it’s unhealthy and take action to move yourself to a happier and more positive place and emotion.

Being miserable is really a waste of precious time that you could be using to do happier and healthier things. Really, wy not live every moment the best and happiest you can?

Remember that feeling bad emotions and negativity begins with thinking bad thoughts and dwelling on those thoughts.

So here are 5 ideas on how to break that negative train of thought to start feeling better.

1. Take a Nap and Sleep on It

There is an expression that things will be better in the morning and the same goes with taking nap. Whether you have a positive dream that refocuses your mind on something good or whether you are just giving your brain a break from its negative train of thought you are allowing yourself to stop thinking and just let go.

2.  Put on a Funny Movie or TV Program

Even if you don’t feel like watching something funny just put it in there. Movies and TV have a way of catching our attention and drawing us into the story. If you watch a movie that makes you cry or sad you are only adding to your already negative thoughts and emotions but if you watch a show that makes you laugh and start thinking about funny things then you are changing your train of thought to something more appealing and uplifting. So no horrors, documentaries, or even uplifting shows – just comedies that make you laugh over silly stuff.

3.  Talk a Walk

Walks will always make you feel better because you are getting exercise, getting out in nature or fresh air, and you are focusing your mind on what’s going on around you at certain points throughout it. In most cases a walk will give you an inspiration or idea that will contradict your negative thought process before the walk. You will almost always come back from a walk feeling better.

4. Take a Drive Out to the Country

Again this is breaking out of the routine of what you are doing and instead putting yourself somewhere where that negative thought is not at.

For example, if you are feeling bad because of something that someone did to you and that someone is associated with your home – then staying in your home is only helping you to dwell on that person.
The country is a place that we go to enjoy ourselves and that’s exactly what it will help you do.

5.  Talk to a Stranger, Friend, or Family Member

The last thing you probably want to do is talk to someone but it will help you in one way or the other.

Either the person will give you some comforting words or they will piss you off so much that you will break from you negative train of thought to think about them instead and usually once the heat of the moment anger is gone you will no longer be focused on your negative thought from before, you will start to feel better, and get on with your day.
